Tá an-áthas orainn fógairt go bhfuil Ceol Cé socraithe! Thóg sé go leor fuil, allas agus deor nó dhó, so tá súil againn go bhfeicfimid cuid agaibh ag na himeachtaí! Buíochas ag gabháil do na hurraitheoirí uilig agus buiochas ag gabháil do Johnny sa Sky.

We're delighted to announce that Ceol Cé is sorted! It took plenty of blood, sweat and a tear or two so we hope to see you's there! Thanks to all our sponsors and especially to Johnny in The Sky.

Féile Ghaeilge, cheoil & chultúir

Wexford based Irish language Group Na Macallaí will be launching their annual Ceol Cé festival on Monday 10th August on Custom House Quay at 10.30am. Models from the Irish Model Agency will be in attendance to help launch the Féile.

This is the second year for the Irish language cultural festival and it has grown from last year’s despite the economic downturn.

The féile will begin with street theatre on Selskar Square when world renowned dance group Celtic Roots provide the entertainment as well as the Loch Garman Samba Group. This will undoubtedly make for a great spectacle and a great way for all the family to pass an hour.

From Selskar Square’s carnival atmosphere, proceedings will move to Maggie May’s pub on Monck street for a Seisiún Ceoil with top class local musicians combining at 3.30pm. All are welcome to attend and of course join in.

After tapping the foot to some classic jigs and reels, this year’s novelty item will take place, the stout and Mussel tasting afternoon. This will begin at 6pm in The Sky and the Ground on South Main Street (Mussels supplied by Paul King Mussels) and will definitely make for a tasty precursor to the main event of the Féile, an Ceolchoirm Mór.

The young traditional Irish Music group “Téada” who have recently been blazing a trail all around the world will take the stage in the Sky and the Ground at 10pm. Téada have been nominated for Best Young Trad Band at this year’s Irish Music Awards.

They are definitely not to be missed. Tickets cost €12 and are a steal at that price.

Na Macallaí development officer Richie Ó hEadhra is delighted with the way the festival has taken shape.

“We were mindful of three things when we set about organising this festival;

That we are in the middle of a recession and that we wanted people to be able to enjoy a family event without paying for it and maybe through that, that some people would rediscover their grá for the Gaeilge and our culture

That Wexford is already awash with festivals at this time of year and that we wanted to make it a one day féile that would hold its own

We didn’t want to lose sight of our main objective which is to promote the Irish language and the culture.

All in all, we are delighted with the way we have struck the balance.
